Rock sliders are DOM or HREW steel welded to bolt-on brackets that tie into the frame, so they take the hit and protect the rocker panel. They still work as a step for cab entry, so you are not giving anything up.
Choose steel if you rock crawl or run heavy trail, because thick steel deflects direct hits that would crack or dent aluminum. Choose aluminum if you cover long overland distances and want protection without the weight penalty, with better corrosion resistance as a bonus. Both are available for the Tundra.
