Located on Oahu, Kaena Point Trail is a beautiful escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Now let's learn a little bit more about this trail and its heavenly tides!

About the Ride:
Tell us about your favorite part of this trail and what time of year did you go?

​I love this trail because you can score good conditions year-round and there are plenty of different route options you can take. Since this trail is located at the tip of the island, bad weather just blows by lots of the time. This specific trip was in the spring.

Tell us about the trip in general, did you have any scary moments?
​This trip was nothing but good times! Took the main trail to the end then came back on a bunch of the side trails. Stopped at a little cove and went for a little swim in the ocean and ate some lunch… zero worries and zero complaints.

What was the coolest moment?
​The coolest moment is definitely seeing whales as you drive along the ocean trail. The benefits of driving it at this time of year.

Was there any gear you gained a new appreciation for based on this trip?
​This was my second time on this trail with my Cali Raised rock sliders and it feels great having that extra comfort knowing you are protected. It was also the first time I drove the trail with a front-facing camera which came in handy when going over some of the rocky sections.

Would you ever go back?
​Definitely, maybe even next weekend.

Anything else you want to share with us?
Follow all of the marked trails, leave the area cleaner than it was before you came, and be respectful. That way we can continue to enjoy it for many years to come.

What makes this a difficult or easy trail?
​In good conditions, this main trail is an easy one to have fun and relax on. It can get pretty rocky at some parts but nothing a lightly modified truck can’t handle. You always have the option to take some of the harder side trails if you want a challenge.

What keeps you Overlanding and off-roading?
The ability to find zones with no one else around. When you live on an island it can get pretty cramped, but it’s good to know you can still get away when you need to.

What’s your dream trail and why?
​I would love to get my truck to some of the other Hawaiian Islands for some exploration.

This trail is a great one for anyone to enjoy.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into Overlanding and off-roading?
​My name is Mackenzie Yoshida ( @surf_n_turf_taco ) and I am from the island of Oahu, Hawaii. I have spent lots of time traveling as a surfer and professional downhill skateboarder. While camping at skate races or surf spots I would always see people's truck camping setups and that’s what first sparked my interest for me.

While here at home, I wanted a vehicle that could hold all my essential gear and be able to access anywhere on the island whether it's secluded surf spots or hidden mountain roads. Once I got my Tacoma I’ve been fine-tuning it to be the best adventure mobile it can be. I keep telling myself I am satisfied with where the truck is at, but more parts keep showing up… I guess we all know how that goes!
