Square Style Switches: Fitment and Wiring

Square Style is the switch body used across the newest Toyota platforms. If you are on a 2024+ Tacoma, a 2025+ 4Runner or a 2022+ Tundra, this is the shape that fills your factory blank opening.

Wiring: five wires, not four

Square switches use five wires rather than the four on Small and Tall. Yellow goes to the dash light circuit so the switch lights with your dash, red comes in from your power source with an inline fuse, white is the backlight LED on ground, green goes out to your relay to run the accessory, and black is the symbol backlight ground. Electrical connections are required. Wiring connectors are not included; use a suitable connection method for your wiring setup.

Which vehicles do Square Style switches fit?
Square Style fits the newer platforms: Toyota Tacoma 2024+, 4Runner 2025+, Tundra 2022+, RAV4 2019+, Sequoia 2022+ and Land Cruiser 300 Series 2022+. If you are on an older generation you will want Small or Tall instead.
What is the difference between Small, Tall and Square switches?
They are the same switch in three different body shapes, each made to fill a different factory blank opening. The style you need is set by your vehicle and year, not by preference - a Tall switch will not sit correctly in a Small opening. Wiring also differs slightly: Small and Tall switches use a four-wire connector, Square switches use five.
How are Square switches wired?
Five wires. YELLOW connects to the dash light circuit so the switch lights with your dash. RED connects from your power source with an inline fuse. WHITE is the backlight LED on ground. GREEN connects to your relay to run the accessory. BLACK is the symbol backlight ground.
Do these replace the blank switches in my dash?
Yes. They are built to match your factory switch openings so they sit flush and read as OEM rather than an aftermarket add-on. You are filling an existing blank, not cutting new holes.

Will the switch backlight match my factory dash lights?
Yes, when wired as intended. The symbol backlight runs off your dash light circuit - RED 2 on Small and Tall switches, YELLOW on Square switches - so the switch dims and lights with the rest of your dash instead of glowing on its own.
Can I install these myself?
Most owners can. The switch drops into an existing factory opening, and the wiring is four or five clearly labelled wires with a defined job each. You will need a relay for whatever accessory you are running and an inline fuse on the power feed.
