Small Style Switches: Fitment and Wiring

Small Style is the compact OEM switch body, made to fill the smaller blank openings found across the mid-generation Toyota platforms. It sits flush in the factory opening so an added light bar, ditch light or compressor is controlled from a switch that reads as stock.

Vehicles that take Small Style

  • Toyota Tacoma 2005-2023
  • Toyota 4Runner 2010-2024
  • Toyota Tundra 2014-2021
  • Toyota RAV4 2008-2012
  • Toyota Sequoia 2008-2021

Tacoma 2005-2023 can take either Small or Tall depending on the opening, so check your dash rather than going by year alone. Newer platforms use the Square Style.

Wiring

Four wires: green in from your power source with an inline fuse, red 1 out to your relay to run the accessory, red 2 to the dash light circuit so the symbol dims with your dash, and black as the symbol backlight ground. Pair it with our Perma-Seal connector, sold separately, for a sealed connection instead of a splice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which vehicles do Small Style switches fit?
Small Style fits Toyota Tacoma 2005-2023, 4Runner 2010-2024, Tundra 2014-2021, RAV4 2008-2012 and Sequoia 2008-2021. If your vehicle is newer than these ranges you most likely need the Square Style instead. Confirm the shape of the blank opening in your dash before ordering.
What is the difference between Small, Tall and Square switches?
They are the same switch in three different body shapes, each made to fill a different factory blank opening. The style you need is set by your vehicle and year, not by preference - a Tall switch will not sit correctly in a Small opening. Wiring also differs slightly: Small and Tall switches use a four-wire connector, Square switches use five.
How are Small and Tall switches wired?
Four wires. GREEN connects from your power source with an inline fuse. RED 1 connects to your relay to run the accessory. RED 2 connects to the dash light circuit so the switch symbol lights up with your dash lights. BLACK is the symbol backlight LED ground.
Do these replace the blank switches in my dash?
Yes. They are built to match your factory switch openings so they sit flush and read as OEM rather than an aftermarket add-on. You are filling an existing blank, not cutting new holes.
Do I need the Perma-Seal connector?
It is sold separately and it is not required, but it is what makes the install straightforward. Paired with the Perma-Seal connector the switch wiring becomes a clean, sealed connection rather than a splice job, which is why most owners can fit these safely regardless of their 12V wiring experience.
Will the switch backlight match my factory dash lights?
Yes, when wired as intended. The symbol backlight runs off your dash light circuit - RED 2 on Small and Tall switches, YELLOW on Square switches - so the switch dims and lights with the rest of your dash instead of glowing on its own.
Can I install these myself?
Most owners can. The switch drops into an existing factory opening, and the wiring is four or five clearly labelled wires with a defined job each. You will need a relay for whatever accessory you are running and an inline fuse on the power feed. Our installation resources cover the wiring in detail if you want to read through it before you order.
