Catalytic Converter Shield For 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma

Install the Cali Raised LED Catalytic Converter Shield on your 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma using the instructions below. The shields help deter catalytic converter theft by locking a 12-gauge 304 stainless guard over both converters, using the factory mounting points. The video and photos show the 4WD shield, CR3876. The 2WD shield, CR3877, installs with the same steps; its rear bracket takes one crossmember bolt instead of two.

Fitment and installation time

Fits 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma (3rd Gen), V6 only, automatic only: Access Cab, Double Cab Short Bed and Double Cab Long Bed. Will not fit manual-transmission models. 100% bolt-on at the existing bolt holes; no drilling or welding. Installation time is not stated in the video.

Included in the kit

• Driver-side shield (stamped D) and passenger-side shield (stamped P)
• Four supplied security bolts
• Four washers
• Two rubber bumpers
• One included security tool

Tools you supply

• 12 mm wrench or socket, for the four support-tube bolts
• 14 mm wrench or socket, for the transmission crossmember nuts
• A ratchet or driver that holds the included security tool
• A pick, hook or flat screwdriver to seat the rubber bumpers

Before you start

The install video is shot on a lift. At home, park on level ground and support the truck on jack stands; never work under a vehicle held up only by a jack. Let the exhaust cool completely first. Do not paint the shields; catalytic converters run hot. If you run an aftermarket transmission skid plate, take it off first and put it back on after the shields are in.

Installation steps (driver side first)

1. Fit the rubber bumpers. On the bench, push one rubber bumper into the hole in each shield's front tab, wide part facing up. A hook or flat screwdriver helps it seat.
2. Remove the support tube. Take out the front support tube's four factory bolts, two at the back and two at the front, with a 12 mm wrench. Keep the bolts.
3. Loosen the crossmember bolts. Unscrew the nuts on the two transmission crossmember bolts all the way off with a 14 mm wrench, then push the bolts forward. That makes room for the shield's rear tab.
4. Hang the tube back loosely. Put one factory bolt back in at the crossmember end of the tube, loosely, and swing the tube out of the way so the shield can go up.
5. Fit the shield. Take the shield stamped D. Lift its front over the lower suspension arm bolt, then lift the rear and slide the two crossmember bolts into the slots in the rear tab. CR3877 (2WD): the rear bracket has one hole, so it goes onto one crossmember bolt.
6. Swing the tube back. Bring the support tube back so its front end sits over the shield's side tab.
7. Start the security bolts. Put a washer on each supplied security bolt, then thread them through the front end of the tube and the shield into the frame, by hand. They take the place of the two front factory bolts; keep those with your truck.
8. Last bolt, then tighten. Put the second factory bolt back in at the rear position of the tube. With everything hand-tight, tighten the crossmember nuts first, then the support-tube bolts, then the security bolts with the included security tool. Do not over-tighten. If the hardware will not seat the way it should, stop and email support before you force it.
9. Repeat on the passenger side. The shield stamped P goes on the passenger side. Same steps, same order.

Check your work

• Both shields sit flat and tight.
• Crossmember nuts, support-tube bolts and all four security bolts are tight; neither shield moves when pulled.
• D on the driver side, P on the passenger side.
• Aftermarket transmission skid plate back on, if you have one.

Keep the included security tool safe; it is what takes the shields back off.
