A skid plate is a bolt-on armor plate under the truck that takes the hit from rocks, ledges and ruts instead of the oil pan, transmission, transfer case or fuel tank. Cali Raised LED skid plates are fabricated in-house in Fort Worth, Texas.
Steel or aluminum
3/16-inch steel is the strongest option; 1/4-inch 5052 aluminum saves weight. On the 2005-2023 Tacoma, the front skid weighs about 49.2 lbs in steel and 20.5 lbs in aluminum. On the 2024+, it is about 48 lbs in steel and 22 lbs in aluminum. Lower control arm skids are steel only, and the rear shock and trailing arm skids are 10-gauge steel.
2005-2023 Tacoma (2nd and 3rd gen)
- Front, transmission, fuel tank, lower control arm and rear shock skids fit 2nd and 3rd gen trucks
- Separate transfer case skids for 2005-2015 and 2016-2023
- The transmission skid requires the Cali Raised LED front skid
- The fuel tank skid requires TRD Off-Road fuel tank straps
2024+ Tacoma (4th gen)
- Front, cat shield and transmission, transfer case, fuel tank, lower control arm, rear shock and trailing arm skids
- Hybrid and non-hybrid versions of the cat shield, transfer case and complete set
- The cat shield and transmission skid does not fit with the factory TRD skid plate
- The aluminum front skid needs modification to fit TRD recovery mounts; the steel one fits
