Tailgate Theft Protector Installation Instructions — CR4466

Install the Cali Raised LED Tailgate Theft Protector (CR4466) on your 2015–2022 Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon using the instructions below. The protector helps deter tailgate theft by blocking the lift-off point at the passenger-side hinge, and it mounts with a bolt already on your truck.

Fitment and installation time

Fits 2015–2022 Chevy Colorado (Base, WT, LT, Z71, ZR2) and GMC Canyon (SL, Base, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali). One part covers both trucks. Not tested on soft-close tailgates; contact us before ordering if your truck has one. Estimated installation time: 5–10 minutes. No drilling, cutting or new holes; mounts to the truck bed using a factory bolt.

Included in the kit

No hardware is included. The protector reuses your truck's factory bolt.

Before you start

Park on level ground and lower the tailgate. The installation takes place on the passenger side with the tailgate down. A tailgate support cable runs across the work area; leave it alone.

Installation steps

Locate the factory bolt. With the tailgate down, look at the flat rear-facing jamb at the end of the passenger-side bedside, just inboard of the taillight. One factory bolt sits in a shallow round dimple about halfway up the jamb, the lower bolt. That is the only fastener you touch.
Remove the factory bolt. Back it out with a T15 Torx bit and pull it out. Keep it; you are about to put it back in through the protector. Nothing else on this jamb comes off.
Set it on and start the bolt. Hold the flat face of the plate against the jamb so its hole sits over the empty factory hole, with the lower leg reaching down toward the tailgate latch pocket. Put the same factory bolt through the plate and start it by hand, then run it in almost all the way.
Check for contact, then tighten. Before you tighten, look around the edge of the plate and make sure it is not touching the truck anywhere it should not. Then tighten the bolt with the T15 bit until the plate is snug and does not move. Do not over-tighten. If the plate will not seat the way it should, stop and email support before you force it.
