Tailgate Theft Protector Installation Instructions — CR4446

Install the Cali Raised LED Tailgate Theft Protector (CR4446) on your 2014–2021 Toyota Tundra using the instructions below. The protector helps deter tailgate theft by shielding access to the passenger-side hinge and adding a tamper-resistant security bolt.

Fitment and installation time

Fits 2014–2021 Toyota Tundra (2nd Gen), all trims, including SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition and TRD models. Estimated installation time: 5–10 minutes. No drilling required. Bolt-on at factory mounting points.

4 mm hex bit (H4) with a driver or ratchet, to remove the one factory bolt
1/4-inch bit driver or ratchet that holds the included security bit

Before you start

Park on level ground and lower the tailgate. The installation takes place on the passenger side with the tailgate down. A tailgate support cable runs across the work area; leave it alone.

Installation photos show an earlier version with the CR logo cutout. The current version does not have the logo cutout. Installation is unchanged. The driver seen in the video is not part of the kit; you supply it.

Installation steps

Locate the factory bolt. With the tailgate down, look at the flat rear-facing jamb at the end of the passenger-side bedside. One dark socket-head bolt sits in an oval recessed pocket right below the yellow caution label, just inboard of the taillight seam. That single bolt is the only thing that comes out. Leave the latch striker and the support-cable anchor above it alone.
Remove the factory bolt. Back that bolt out with a 4 mm hex bit and set it aside. Keep it with your truck.
Set the protector in place. Hold the tall flat flange against the jamb so its hole lines up with the empty pocket, and let the shield section wrap down over the tailgate hinge.
Install the security bolt. Place the supplied washer onto the security bolt, beneath the bolt head. Insert the bolt through the protector's mounting hole and thread it into the factory hole by hand. Tighten using the included security bit until the bracket sits flat and does not move. Do not over-tighten. If the hardware will not seat the way it should, stop and email support before you force it.

Check your work

The plate sits flat against the jamb, with no gap.
The bolt is seated and the plate does not move when you pull on it.
The tailgate opens, closes and latches normally.

Keep the included security bit safe; it is needed to remove the plate.
