Q: Will this fit my 2012 F-150 FX4?
A: Yes. It fits all 2009-2014 Ford F-150 trims, including XL, STX, XLT, FX2, FX4, SVT Raptor, FX Tremor, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Harley-Davidson, and Limited.

Q: Does it fit the SVT Raptor?
A: Yes. The Raptor uses the same tailgate as the rest of the F-150 line for these model years, so the protector fits. Note that the SVT Raptor was produced from 2010 through 2014.

Q: It mounts with my truck's existing hardware. What stops someone from unbolting it?
A: Tailgate theft is fast and opportunistic, and it is usually done with cutting tools rather than a socket set. The hardware this protector mounts with is not the hardware that attaches your tailgate to the truck, so someone working quickly is unlikely to have the right tool on them. No security product is absolute, but this pushes the time and effort well past what a grab-and-go theft allows.

Q: What is it made from?

Q: Is it painted or coated?
A: No, and that is deliberate. It is left as raw 304 stainless steel. Stainless resists rust on its own, so a coating would only add a finish that can chip, scratch, or peel over time.

Q: How does it stop tailgate theft?
A: Thieves drop the tailgate and lift it off the hinge, which takes seconds and requires no tools. This protector blocks that lift-off point so the method no longer works.

Tailgate Theft Protector Installation Instructions — CR4464

Install the Cali Raised LED Tailgate Theft Protector (CR4464) on your 2009–2014 Ford F-150 using the instructions below. The protector helps deter tailgate theft by blocking the lift-off point at the passenger-side hinge, and it mounts with a bolt already on your truck.

Fitment and installation time

Fits 2009–2014 Ford F-150, all trims: XL, STX, XLT, FX2, FX4, FX Tremor, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Harley-Davidson, Limited and SVT Raptor (2010–2014). Not tested on soft-close tailgates; contact us before ordering if your truck has one. Estimated installation time: 5–10 minutes. No drilling, cutting or new holes; mounts to the truck bed using a factory bolt.

Included in the kit

Before you start

Park on level ground and lower the tailgate. The installation takes place on the passenger side with the tailgate down, and it stays down until the plate is tight.

Installation steps

Locate the factory bolt. With the tailgate down, look at the flat rear-facing jamb at the end of the passenger-side bedside, just inboard of the tailgate gap. One small factory bolt sits in a shallow stamped pocket. That is the only fastener you touch.
Remove the factory bolt. Back it out with an 8 mm box-end wrench and pull it out. Keep the bolt and its washer; you are about to put the same bolt back in through the protector.
Set it on and start the bolt. Hold the flat tab of the plate against the jamb so its hole sits over the empty factory hole, with the lower leg reaching down into the gap beside the tailgate. Put the same factory bolt, with its washer, back through the plate and start it by hand.
Check the clearance, then tighten. Before you tighten all the way, make sure the plate is not rubbing on top of the tailgate. Shift it up a little and over until it is clear, then tighten the bolt with the 8 mm wrench until the plate is snug and does not move. Do not over-tighten. If the plate will not seat the way it should, stop and email support before you force it.
