Tailgate Theft Protector Installation Instructions — CR4445

Install the Cali Raised LED Tailgate Theft Protector (CR4445) on your 2007–2013 Toyota Tundra using the instructions below. The protector helps deter tailgate theft by shielding the passenger-side hinge and adding a tamper-resistant security bolt.

Fitment and installation time

Fits 2007–2013 Toyota Tundra (2nd Gen, first body style), all trims. Estimated installation time: 5–10 minutes. No drilling required. Bolt-on at a factory mounting point. Limited lifetime warranty from Cali Raised LED.

Included in the kit

  • One protector plate (laser-cut 304 stainless steel, uncoated)
  • One supplied security bolt

Tools you supply

  • 10 mm socket and ratchet, to remove the factory bolt
  • 1/4-inch bit driver or ratchet that holds the included security bit

Before you start

Park on level ground and lower the tailgate. The installation takes place on the passenger side with the tailgate down. The tailgate support-cable pivot sits right above the mounting hole; leave it alone.

Installation photos show an earlier version with the CR logo cutout. The current version does not have the logo cutout. Installation is unchanged. The driver seen in the video is not part of the kit; you supply it.

Installation steps

  1. Locate and remove the factory bolt. With the tailgate down, look at the flat rear-facing jamb at the end of the passenger-side bedside, just inboard of the taillight. The factory bolt sits below the tailgate support-cable pivot. Remove that bolt with a 10 mm socket and keep it with your truck. Leave the cable pivot alone.
  2. Set the protector in place. Hold the flat top flange, the one with the single hole, against the jamb so the hole sits over the threaded hole, and let the stepped shield leg wrap down over the tailgate hinge.
  3. Start the bolt by hand. Put the supplied security bolt through the plate and thread it into the hole by hand until the plate pulls in against the jamb.
  4. Tighten with the included bit. Fit the included security bit in your driver and tighten the bolt until the plate sits flat and does not move. Do not over-tighten. If the hardware will not seat the way it should, stop and email support before you force it.

Check your work

  • The plate sits flat against the jamb, with no gap.
  • The bolt is seated and the plate does not move when you pull on it.
  • The tailgate opens, closes and latches normally.

Keep the included security bit safe; it is needed to remove the plate.
