The Hi-Lite Overland is a hybrid bumper, and that is the whole idea behind it. The winch cradle, meaning the part that carries the winch and takes recovery loads, is 1/4 inch and 3/16 inch steel plate. Around it sits an aluminum shell weighing between 26 and 44 pounds depending on the application. You get steel strength where the load actually goes and save the weight everywhere else, which matters on a front axle already carrying more than it left the factory with.
Every front bumper is built around a steel winch plate, so winch mounting is part of the structure rather than a bracket added later, and recovery points are 3/4 inch steel. Front bumpers come three ways: full bull bar for brush protection and light mounting, prerunner bull bar for the taller and wider stance, and no bull bar to keep the approach angle and the sightline over the hood clear. All three bolt to the same vehicle, so it is purely a choice of look and function.
